
Called "Flower Queen", but known mainly as "Edelweiss", this plant is a rarity being declared a natural monument for this reason is protected by law since 1933.
Edelweiss is a plant with straight stem that can reach up to 50-80 cm at the earth's surface to form a rosette of leaves in the middle of which stands a short stalk, which bears a blossom-shaped disc, which are grouped into flowers that take the form of a star. The plant is covered with velvety hair, giving a silvery elegance.

In the natural environment in our country we can find it in the Carpathians. It is a pride of the Romanian Carpathians. Grows in limestone massifs of Bucegi, Fagaras, Retezat mountains. The flowering period is very short, extending throughout during the months of June, July and August.

This plant, in the folk tradition is a symbol of love and it is said that men were showing their love, skill and courage, picking that special and rare flower from the corner on the cliffs of the mountains and offering it to those beloved.
